Greenhouse It all starts here on an old dairy farm in the tiny hamlet of Shushan in Salem, NY. Currently, there are four bays like this covering only a quarter of acre.

An excellent well provides plenty of pure water and the nutrients are mixed into this water to produce lush tomato plants for about ten months per year. The plants are an indeterminate variety, i.e. the vines continue to grow as long as the fruit is picked slightly before it ripens fully. As the vines grow, they are swirled around the greenhouse, reaching almost 45 feet in length! Vines

Cluster We grow both beefsteak and cluster varieties. You can see this beefsteak cluster ripening and the nutrient piping.
Here is the finished product. Look for it in almost all the Hannaford supermarkets in the capital region. It's locally grown in ideal conditions with no pesticides because we use beneficial insects. Tomato
Tomatoes and corkboard Take home plenty. They're great plain with balsamic vinegar, in salads, on pizza, and in gazpacho. The corkboards can be purchased in the Quarry Road Farm store. Almost all the photos on this page will enlarge, if clicked. Use your back button to return to this page.
