Washington County and environs Bennington Links |
| Bennington is the fifth largest community in Vermont. The Bennington website is a good place to start looking for information. In 1749, New Hampshire Governor Benning Wentworth chartered the first town in the territory now known as Vermont, and named it Bennington, in honor of himself. |
| The Bennington Monument celebrates the Battle of Bennington which took place in nearby Walloomsac. This battle prevented Burgoyne from capturing the arsenal at Bennington, leading to his defeat at Saratoga. The Bennington Museum (right) is one of the finest regional history and art museums in New England. |
| Of course, Bennington College is here, and so is Southern Vermont College and the Park-McCullough House, a thirty-five room Victorian Mansion. |
